This is how I roll

Sometimes you just gotta dole out the attitude to the kids and armchair astronomers. This cartoon is courtesy of my friend and gave me a good chuckle on a particularly difficult day.

funny (sorta) I can see where it helps to relieve your tension but it is a tad insulting to me since I really have to search the night sky to see what you know so well. but then we ALL take our tension releases where we can find them and humor DOES help...so does music. :-)

I don't actually treat people this way. I just thought it was funny. It's as if an astronomer became similar in personality to a large company's tech-guy. Those tech guys are notorious for making the layperson feel dumb for not knowing everything about computers.

didn't mean any offense to children or arm chair astronomers.

Yeah, it was meant purely as a joke. The title of the cartoon is "Abusive Astronomy". I get and understand that people love astronomy and want to know about it. Quite honestly, I don't think I could pick out the pleides star cluster myself at this point. lol.

Sometimes I'd like take the kid-gloves off and dole out some abusive astronomy. I guess that can only happen after you are tenured.

feeling like it and doing it are two different things. it's like grammar-nerds: I had to learn to let things go 'cause being pedantic just doesn't work at parties. lol. between the mathematics guy in the family and the english grammar lady, we could scare off a lot of folks. so instead I listen to podcasts about grammar usage and read books on "the right stuff" and let the rest go by the wayside. easier that way. sorta like learning to choose your battles (a life lesson that's been with me a really long time. lol.)
